Software

Credentialing software compared

The main credentialing tools used in the U.S., in plain language: who each one is for, what’s great and what to watch out for.

How to choose

  1. Match the tool to your job. Hospitals need privileging, committees and OPPE/FPPE. Health plans and CVOs need fast PSV, monitoring and NCQA-ready files. Practices mostly need payer enrollment and expiration tracking.
  2. Check NCQA status yourself. If you delegate credentialing, look the vendor up on NCQA’s report cards. Software isn’t certified; the vendor’s CVO service is.
  3. Ask about integrations. EHR (e.g. Epic), HR, CAQH, NPDB Continuous Query and your claims or Salesforce system. Ask for a live demo, not a slide.
  4. Plan the implementation. Ask for realistic timelines, data migration help and training costs. Reviewers often say setup took longer than expected.
  5. Ask for references like you. Talk to 2–3 customers of your size and type, and read recent reviews, not just star averages.
